I read an article on social cybersecurity and it was a bit of a wake-up call. The article dives into how the internet has completely erased the need for physical presence in influence operations, making open societies way more vulnerable to manipulation. It was fascinating—and disturbing to see how bots, hashtag latching and fake opinion leaders are used to create division in our culture. I found myself rethinking social media entirely. The BEND model, with tactics like misdirection and thread-jacking, was very interesting. It’s clear we need to educate ourselves better on spotting these tactics to defend against this new form of cyber warfare.
