During this pay period I had experienced a trip to the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia. At this facility we house a satellite campus for our students stationed in the Northern Virginia area. There were many staff positions that once worked there but Old Dominion has decided to shut down the program due to the interest in pursuing a fully online division of the school. On this trip we were tasked with tearing down all of the equipment that was sent to this area. Many computers, networking tools, and office supplies were taken from the facility. During this trip we also made connections with old employees that used to work for the satellite facility. They gave us a brief on what was ours and what was there to stay. As soon as that conversation was over we got down to gutting out the whole room. Many sensitive files were found and had to be shredded once we got back in order to keep people’s information safe. We also tore down the computers and took out their hard drives to make sure that no information was still on them.

After doing this we sent them to the facilities department where they either throw them away or sell them to other schools in need of technology. Some technology that we found had been in great condition. This stuff was able to be reused and put back into our building storage for future use. These items included printers, scanners, keyboards and mice. This gave us a better inventory for these important devices that most people need for their offices. This was also a great time for me and my coworkers to bond on the way to the job site and on the way back home to our office at Old Dominion.
