My professional development goals are to enter government and academia following graduation. I am especially interested in the field of emergency management, and I’m working to gain experience in that area during my PhD program. I am acquiring practitioner and research experience that will be useful for my career in government through my fellowships, and through this course, I will have the opportunity to develop academia-specific skills to serve as a faculty member. This course will complement the experience I have gained thus far by acting as a graduate research assistant for professors in the School of Public Service. Although not an official teaching assistant, I acted in that capacity for a semester, so it helped me get a better understanding of what to expect in the classroom. Futhermore, I have a background in student affairs, so this course will be especially beneficial considering that experience. My specific goals for this course are to learn how to develop and deliver effective lessons, exercise just grading, and learn to be flexible in order to teach both in-person and online.
