My whole life I struggled to find something I was really passionate about and that I could turn into a potential career. I was never particularly good at high level math, science, or engineering. I was always a creative kid, however It was difficult for me to translate my creativity into something that I could monetize. This left me searching for a career that made good money but also allowed me to express my creativity. These two factors led me directly to the field of cyber security technology. From an early age, I always expressed high interests in technology. When I wasn’t at school or baseball practice I would always find myself playing video games or playing on the computer. I would spend endless hours on video games and technology everyday throughout my childhood. This would later generate curiosity on whether or not I could do something in the field of technology for a living.
I started to do more research and deep thinking into what I wanted to do with my life at the tail end of high school. At this point I was dead set on doing something in the technological/computer systems field. I began to weigh my options and differentiate all the different subsets of information technology. The reason I chose cyber security over the other options is because of how interested I was in hacking and cyber defense. I was fascinated with the idea of being able to learn how to hack into an operating system and how to defend it. Another reason I was interested in cyber security is because the work you do has a major impact on the world. Being tasked with keeping companies and government agencies safe from cyber threats is extremely important. Having the ability to provide that very important service to companies will leave me feeling fulfilled in life. It will give me a purpose and a drive to wake up and go to work every single day.
