The Password Cracking lab was both one of the labs I had the most fun with, and also the one I did the worst on. We created six users with varying levels of password complexity, and were instructed to export the hashes for those passwords to a separate file so that we could then run the jacktheripper program on them. After waiting about 10 minutes for the program to run, we were then to report how many passwords had been cracked.
I had a little bit of fun with the accounts I created
User 1: IaianMBanks
Password: culture
User 2: RayBradbury
Password: 0451
User 3: DouglasAdams
Password: hitchhiker4242
User 4: Kusanagi
Password: security0009!?!?
User 5: AmuroRay
Password: robotics0079
User6: Skywalker
Password: ReBeLlIoN0954!@#*
The part I messed up is that when I was exporting password hashes, I failed to export just the hashes for those accounts, and so I ended up running the password cracking program against the entire password file. Obviously, this caused great issues and the program was unable to perform its duty in a timely manner.
