Old Dominion University provides a large number of majors and minors for people to take and fluctuate through to pursue in the career they want. There is also a lot of majors here that also relate to cybersecurity and have it involved throughout the course and you would also use that knowledge and skills from it in your career. The four majors I chose are Information Systems and Technology, Risk Management and Insurance (finance), Public Health, and E-Business and E-Commerce (information systems and technology). Information Systems and Technology deals with communication, business, networking, and software design and development. The knowledge you gain from this major relates to cybersecurity because when dealing with businesses and developing and using software you will need cybersecurity. You will be dealing with lots of information online and it needs to be secure, and you have to major sure you are doing everything properly to ensure security with your information as well as the business as a whole.

Next, Is Risk Management and Insurance (finance). You can go in many directions with this degree because it is a part of insurance and risk management. Insurance has many fields, and you are dealing with other people’s information, so you need to know proper protocols and what information can be disclosed and can’t when talking to people. Risk management also has many fields, but you are generally assessing things and ensuring that risk is low so that the business can continue to be great, strong and firm. This relates to cybersecurity a lot because you are dealing with private information and it is important to keep security practice’s high to ensure business information and client information does not get compromised.

In Public Health, students learn how to foster and defend individual and community health. They also develop critical thinking and analysis skills when dealing with certain health issues and etc. with this major you have many career options. You can work with the government, public health agencies, firms, research organizations, and hospitals. That’s just a few, the list goes on. It relates to cybersecurity a lot because when dealing with confidential information, security precautions and guidelines have to be met and followed to ensure information doesn’t get into the wrong hands and can hurt you and whoever you work for.

The major that relates the most to cybersecurity is E-Business and E-Commerce. It relates the most because you cover information on marketing, advertising, buying and selling completely online. With a major like this, and a career in this field you will be working pretty much fully online. This is good because all your information is right there for you, but the bad thing is that, cybersecurity is a major thing you need to know in order to keep you information updated and secured. Especially when dealing with buying and selling, you need to make sure of security so that your information doesn’t get stolen as well as the other party.
