Goal 1: Strengthen Clerical and Administrative Skills
One of my professional goal during this internship is to enhance my clerical and administrative abilities within a dynamic hospital setting. As a Unit Secretary, my duties include maintaining patient records, managing phone calls, scheduling tests, and assisting staff with various clerical responsibilities. By excelling in these tasks, I aim to improve my efficiency in organizing information, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring accuracy in medical documentation. I anticipate achieving this objective through daily practice, soliciting feedback from seasoned staff, and effectively utilizing hospital systems such as EPIC. This development will enable me to contribute to more efficient unit operations and equip me for future leadership positions in healthcare administration.
Goal 2: Improve Communication and Team Collaboration
One of my professional goals is to enhance my communication and collaboration abilities with nurses, physicians, patients, and other healthcare professionals.
Effective communication plays a vital role in ensuring that patients receive safe and timely care, particularly in a medical-surgical unit.
To accomplish this goal, I plan to actively engage with staff during shift changes, familiarize myself with medical terminology, and practice clear and professional communication when answering phones or paging personnel.
Additionally, I intend to observe how senior staff manage patient interactions and emulate their techniques.
By the conclusion of my internship, I aspire to feel assured as a robust link between patients, families, and the healthcare team.
Goal 3: Develop Confidence in Patient Support and Customer Service
My third professional goal is to cultivate confidence in delivering non-clinical assistance to patients and their families.
Greeting visitors, responding to inquiries, and providing directions are essential components of my responsibilities, and executing these tasks with professionalism and empathy contributes to fostering a welcoming atmosphere.
I anticipate achieving this objective by engaging in active listening, demonstrating compassion, and learning to handle stressful situations with composure.
Additionally, I will utilize feedback from both staff and patients to refine my approach.
By the end of my internship, I aspire to consistently provide patient-centered service that improves the hospital experience for all individuals who enter the unit.
