The internet and its users have grown faster than anyone could have guessed. The internet and internet technology has propelled society into the next level of evolution. As people continue to venture into the cyberspace and conduct more business online, this has created vast opportunities for cyber crime. These crimes are made up of new crimes and new methods of committing more normal crimes like identity theft, fraud, hacking, online intrusion, phishing, drug trafficking, gambling, child pornography cyber stalking, and property crime. These crimes in this list are no where near exhaustive. The vast room of cyberspace allows terrorist organizations to recruit, organize, plan, fundraise, and spread propaganda for their cause through digital means. Millions of people all across the globe are affected by cybercrime on the daily. One of the largest forms of cyber crimes committed is identity theft. Around 40% of all identity frauds are committed online. The most stolen documents used by criminals are utility bills, bank documents, and passports. The increase in cyber crime has become one of the most threatening problem for the judicial system, law enforcement, and the public. The internet offers anonymity that provides a level of security for cyber criminals and cyber terrorists. With the advancement in encryption software gives many criminals and terrorists instant security and anonymity. This leads law enforcement and investigators to a dead end. Almost all infrastructure is connected to the internet or some sort of technology which is also an appealing target to cyber criminals. Poor government regulations led to a water treatment plant in Florida to be hacked leading to the water being over contaminated with sodium hydroxide.. The hackers were never caught because of internet anonymity. Thanks to limited and biased research based on small samples, it has become difficult to understand the full scope of cyber crime.
