Fly Eagles Fly!

The Philadelphia Eagles are officially Super Bowl 59 world champions.

The Eagles proved in control and dominated early and often, most would say things felt decided before rapper Kendrick Lamar’s iconic halftime performance. The Eagles looked like the more talented team on paper, however because of the countless times the Kansas City Chiefs have won and the success rate they had in big moments like the Super Bowl left many people with no choice but to have some respect for their team in a way that didn’t count them out entirely. Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts kicked things off with throwing a long deep pass up the sideline to Eagles wide receiver Jahan Dotson that helped set up a 1-yard tush push touchdown from Jalen Hurts. Since drawing first blood in the first quarter, the Philadelphia Eagles proved to be the dominant team through all four quarters. Philadelphia played with an elite defensive mentality that produced many sacks on Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. In fact the Eagles defense was the skill group that forced Mahomes to look human for once, Mahomes was forced into throwing interceptions and a lot of inaccurate incompletions, making him overthink in countless moments. On the offensive side of the ball, The Eagles by no means played superior, however they didn’t need to be. Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and Co. came up with a clear plan to shutdown Jalen Hurts and the powerful Philly rushing attack led by Saquon Barkley and it worked for most if not all four quarters. With that being said, Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore understood this and came up with different play calls that resulted in throwing the Chiefs defense off completely, some of the play designs were plays that we’re never ran in actual live game play, some of the play designs were designed rushing plays for Jalen Hurts that resulted in massive gains. Right before halftime, Jalen Hurts hit star wide receiver A.J. Brown in stride for a touchdown to extend the lead to 24-0 with 01:35 left in the second quarter. Coming out of the half, the Eagles defensive continue to frustrate Mahomes, through more pressure, forcing him to throw more incompletions. Early in the third quarter, Jalen Hurts turned things up a notch with a deep touchdown pass to wide receiver Devonta Smith. The ball sailed in the air and was placed in a great position for Smith to snag out the air over the Chiefs defensive back for the score. Devonta Smith’s touchdown was refereed to as the dagger by most watchers. The touchdown put the Eagles up 34 points, putting the Kansa City Chiefs in one of the biggest deficits they’ve ever faced. In the end, the score proved to be too much to comeback from, resulting in the Chiefs to surrender and accept their fate early.
