The letter to the affected customer can relate to a few economic theories. It can relate to the Keynesian economic theory by allowing the government to increase its spending on cyber security. Doing this could have / can still help businesses and providers within the United States better arm their systems so this does not happen. The Laissez-fare theory can also apply, the government shouldn’t intervene unless it is to protect inalienable rights. Someone’s happiness sure can be taken away from them when they discover a letter like this, or when their bank account is wiped due to their bank information being leaked. Psychology can relate here because it may have the cybersecurity team asking why the criminals chose this and their behavioral factors leading up to the event. Was it targeted in a specific way like for hacktivism? This directly ties in with criminology. Understanding the criminals reasoning’s and the society they live in can give a better understanding on why a crime like this happens. We need to look at the persons personal life, if possible, to understand their behavior and mental state leading up to the criminal event. It can give clues on to why something like this was done.
