Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs and my personal relationship with technology.
Physiological needs: Through technology I am able to control the heat inside my apartment from just opening an app. As well as being able to lock my front door and make sure my house is secure.
Safety needs: Always having my cellphone in case in an emergency is really convenient. Years ago if you needed to call someone fast you had to go to a landline. I believe cellular devices have made a huge impact on emergency response times, saving many lives over the years.
Belongingness and love needs: Technology can help enhance relationship through social media. I have experienced this while on deployment being able to facetime with my family back home in Virginia always made me feel better.
Esteem needs: For me, a lot of my schoolwork is online based so I have to use technology to access it. Even though my course work is online, finishing projects and assignments for the week always makes me feel well accomplished.
Self-actualization: Technology is a great way to express oneself. All sorts of apps for arts, music, and photography are available. For me using Sony Vegas to edit videos is great and fun way to be creative.
