Your Passport to Digital Citizenship

In an effort to encourage responsible digital citizenship, I would host a “Passport to Digital Citizenship” night at the library for students and their family members (if able to attend). When each student entered they would receive a map that showed them all the stops along their journey to Digital Citizenship.

Each stop would be a station in a different part of the library with information about topics related to responsible digital citizenship. One station would focus on image rights. One station would focus on kind speech vs. bullying. At one station students would write their own online behavior contracts. At another station students would map their online relationships and highlight people they interact with that they’ve never met. One station would discuss positive digital footprints.

At each station they would receive a stamp in their passport book and a ticket. All of the tickets would count for a chance to win a tablet/e-reader. Then the librarian could draw one of the tickets for the prize at the end of the night.

This event would be followed up with monthly digital citizenship e-newsletters that outline and remind students of the information presented at each station along with new information.

  1. What a fantastic idea! I love that you thought outside of the box of regular lesson plans and videos to create a larger project. One benefit of this idea is that it could easily be built upon each year, as students get older and the ideas become more complicated. Another great aspect is that since this is something all students would be participating in, their ‘passport’ could easily be referenced in almost any class to bring digital citizenship into almost any topic.
