Immunology – End-of-Term Reflection

There were many things I learned in Introduction to Immunology this semester that came together with my other classes to improve my understanding of biological functions. The first that comes to mind is the role that organs serve in the immune system. I’ve learned many times over where the thymus, bone marrow and spleen are, but I never fully understood how they performed their function in the body. Learning about B and T cell development and how they migrate between the different lymphoid organs to become developed, specialized and activated to mount an immune response was fascinating. I enjoyed every unit of this course, as I have wanted to be a physician for as long as I can remember. Learning about how the human body operates in detail such as those provided this semester gave me a great sense of satisfaction and I feel closer to my goal of being able to help others in a medical capacity.
