English Internship Overview
I’ve included here the PowerPoint presentation I gave during the English Showcase Week on my Communication and Marketing internship position with Compact Canine Rescue (CCR).
Presentation
As the Spring 2026 CCR Communication and Marketing Intern my tasks and expectations included:
- Managing CCR’s Social Media pages Including, Twitter (X), Facebook, and Instagram
- Create Social Media Content
- Manage Social Media Campaigns
- Use Social Media Analytics to create new or edit current strategies.
- Increase follower engagement, encourage volunteer sign-ups, promote adoptable rescue dogs & market fundraising events.
My daily duties and responsibilities as an intern were:
- Planned content by preparing a weekly social media strategy overview using web applications Buffer and Monday.com
- Developed creative storytelling skills by crafting engaging social media content, including at least one organic post and four daily Instagram stories.
- Enhanced communication and coordination abilities by collaborating with foster coordinator to source photos of foster dogs and pet adoption updates for promotional use.
- Created email correspondence for campaigns, events, fundraising, and sponsorship opportunities.
Onboarding Process
- I found this internship opportunity with the help of Ms. Kathy Moiser, the Assistant Director of the Monarch Humanities Internship Academy (MHIA).
- I sent my resume, cover letter, and writing sample to the Internship Supervisor Shawnna Kerns, at Compact Canine Rescue.
- She invited me to a Google Meet interview and offered me a position that week. The next steps were applying for funding using the Mellon Foundation Award through MHIA. I needed to provide them with a signed copy of my internship offer letter and answer some essay style questions through an online survey.
This internship was supported by the Mellon Foundation Award.
Measurable Effects/Impact of Internship
- Managed and updated social media accounts across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn and TikTok.
- Grew Instagram following by 8.4% in a 120-day period, an increase in 111 followers.
- Marketing efforts contributed to a total of 104 monetary donations equaling $20,000, 151 adoption applications, 7 foster applications, and 3 volunteer applications in a 120-day period.
- Created engaging posts to promote adoptable dogs, fundraising events, and volunteer opportunities.
- Created and executed 5 marketing campaigns to include social media, email blasts, web content and other communications.
- Designed graphics and visual content to enhance brand awareness and community engagement.
- Scheduled and monitored posts to maintain consistent online presence and follower interaction.
- Collaborated with rescue staff and volunteers to gather photos, videos, and stories for social media use.
- Tracked analytics and engagement metrics to measure the effectiveness of campaigns.
- Gained experience with various marketing and project management platforms such as Buffer, Monday, and Canva.
- Updated company website to keep up with current campaigns.
- Created marketing copy for eblast communications to subscribers.
