COMM 101R – Public Speaking

This course has helped me with being more social and confident in the way I speak to others regardless if it is in a professional setting or not. The most meaningful experience had to be writing and delivering speeches simply because it helped me become more comfortable with socializing. Some of the artifacts that came from this course are slideshows, videos, and speech outlines, each of which demonstrate the skills I gained over the time I was in the course, as well as the gradual progression I had from speech to speech. Like I said, this course helped me build confidence and tackle my fear of speaking in front of an audience. A key part of the course involved writing speeches and creating visual representations, such as slideshows, on a different topic every two weeks. What stood out most to me was the process itself, creating the speech, organizing my thoughts, and pairing them with visuals to create an engaging presentation.

Several valuable skills I gained over the duration of this course includes public speaking, organization, and an appreciation for the importance of time management, even though this is still a work in progress for me. Through the process of crafting speeches and pairing them with creative visuals, I was also able to practice traits like confidence and creativity. These skills and traits have had a great impact on my personal growth. They’ve made a difference not just in the classroom with the occasional project presentations for other courses, but also in real-world situations like job interviews .

While I no longer have access to the video artifacts, the speech drafts and outlines on this page highlight my ability to organize ideas properly. Feedback from instructors and peers were very influential in shaping my progress, because they helped me refine my skills over time. Though the recorded presentations are no longer accessible, these elements were key in my growth throughout the course.
