This article is about the efforts that Jordan has made to make cybercrime laws more modern. In
specific, the Electronic Crimes Act of 2023. The Electronic Crimes Act of 2023 explores the
tension with protecting freedom of expression and also addressing rising cybercrime.


How does this article relate to the principles of social
science?


There is a few ways that this article relates to the principles of social science. For one example,
as I said previously, the article addresses the conflict between the security measures of the state
and the individual rights.


What were the research questions or Hypotheses


The research question as stated in the article is “To what extent do the recent legislative
changes, including the Electronic Crimes Act 2023 in Jordan, impact freedom of expression in
the context of cybercrimes?” (Magheireh). This is the primary research question presented in the
article as it is the basis of the entire study.


What were the types of research methods?


In the study, there were a few qualitative and analytical research methods. One of them being
document analysis. A lot of the research focused on analyzing legal texts which garnered a lot of
factual information. For an example a document that was analyzed was the Electronic Crimes Act
of 2023. Other sources such as proposed amendments and other related literature was also
analyzed to gather information during research.

How does the article relate to the challenges, concerns
and contributions of marginalized groups?


Again, as stated before the article focused on the impact of the Electronic Crimes Act on the
freedom of expression, but also bringing up the concerns of human rights. Human rights
organizations criticized the law for curtailing freedoms.


How does this article gather and present data?


The articles gathers data in a few different ways, but the most important way that data was taken
was quantitatively. Basically, numbers of reports recorded on a data table. One of the statistical
data tables shown in the article related to the number of cybercrime cases reported over the
years in Jordan, including specific categories of cybercrime, such as cyber-blackmail,
cyber-defamation, data theft, hacking, and cyber threats.


What concepts from class showed in this article?


There were a few concept from class that introduced themselves throughout this article. A few of
them being experiments, abstracts, and research. This entire article in an experiment that was
tested through in Jordan to solve the research question that the author came up with. The author
also gave an abstract in the beginning of the article highlighting the case. The research and
research methods were also shown through the article. All of these different topic are thing that
we discussed during class, and this is an example of them in action.


How does this article contribute to society?


This article highlighted some very important information that I think can contribute to society. The
article highlighted the awareness of legal implications for freedom of expression, while also
providing advocacy for human rights. This article could also be used for reference in future
research as it details the evolution of cybercrime legislation.


Conclusion


In conclusion, the article demonstrates the intercourse between the legislation of cybercrime,
and the freedom of expression in Jordan. It emphasizes the importance of ongoing dialogue
among human rights advocates, and the public, to ensure that legislative measures are effective
without infringing upon the essential right to free expression in the digital age.

Article Review #2


In class, we tend to hover over the topic of the principals of social sciences a lot, which would
include things such as ethics, equity, and variability. And since our class is mainly focused upon
cybersecurity, we also try to compare different incidents and how they match up with these
different social sciences. For this instance, I have been studying an article about cyberbullying
and it is titled Cyberbullying and Cyberbullicide Ideation Among Jordanian College Students.
My job here is to critically analyze this article and identify how this topic relates to the principals
of social science.


Principles of Social Science


This article relates to the principles of social sciences in a few different ways. One of them being
through human behavior. This article examines how social dynamics and online interaction
affect things such and mental health and behaviors. An example is through the topic of
cyberbullying that was the main highlight of the article. The article explaining the ideation of
cyberbullying and cyberbullicide among Jordanian students through research and data. Another
way the article release to the principles of social sciences is through policy and social change.
The research of the article informs that legislative measures and policies were addressed in order
to highlight the impact of cyberbullying.

Scientific Method


A few of the research questions that were identified through the article would be, “What is the
prevalence of cyberbullying and cyberbullicide ideation among Jordanian college students?” and
“What factors contribute to cyberbullicide ideation. To gather data some of the types of research
methods that were used were things such as survey-based research with questionnaires gaining
their research directly from the students, and quantitative analysis using statistical methods. This
would in turn result in both quantitative and qualitative data being given as the results.


Contributions To Society


This article has a direct contribution to society in the new age scale. Nowadays, everything that
people do is online, especially with my generation. Bringing awareness to things such as
cyberbullying and cyberbullicide is very important and helpful towards the evolution of us as
humans.


Conclusion


In conclusion, The article by Al-Badayneh et al was a very in depth research upon the ideation of
cyberbullying and cyberbullicide among college students. It underscores the pervasive and
harmful impact that it has on young people and gives the reader first hand data about how these
students feel about this situation. In all I believe that it has a great impact and contributes to
society and our future splendidly.
