“The Quest” Final Penpal

“The Quest” for this project was to create a proposal connected to my sports professional penpal. My penpal, Ted Alexander, is best known as the “Voice of the Monarchs” for Old Dominion University and has a long career in sports broadcasting. Because of his experience in play-by-play announcing and sports media, he is a great resource when it comes to understanding how communication and timing play a role in live sports. I decided to create a podcast concept called “Ted’s Timing,” which focuses on breaking down key moments in Old Dominion Monarchs games and showing how those moments are presented to fans through broadcasting.

The purpose of this project is to give fans a better understanding of the game while also highlighting the role of sports media. The podcast would focus on major plays, turning points, and how broadcasters react in real time, helping listeners see the game from a different perspective. It would also serve as a way to connect fans more closely to ODU athletics and create more engagement through media and in the 757. Overall, this idea shows how broadcasting can be used not just to describe the game, but to enhance the experience and bring fans closer to the action.
