I am interested in cybersecurity technology because with a degree in Cybersecurity I will be capable, equipped, and knowledgeable about how to defend digital networks, company assets, and systems from cyberattacks from hackers which can cost companies and business owners thousands of dollars. In fact, on June 4th, 2022 the Texas Department of Insurance had a data breach on their web application that manages workers’ compensation information, had this sensitive information fallen into the hands of cybercriminals the Department would have lost millions of dollars to lawsuits. Cyberattacks have cost companies hundreds of millions of dollars in the past and they will continue to do so unless those organizations have the qualified personnel to defend their assets against cybercrime. According to an article published by Kate O’Flaherty a Cybersecurity journalist in Forbes magazine, “Yahoo to agree to a payout of up to $25.00 per person affected by the cyberattack, as of a $117.5 million settlement for 194 million people.” My purpose to protect and secure networks, company assets, and systems will be fulfilled by obtaining and utilizing a bachelor’s in Cybersecurity.

Also, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is an expected growth of 33% for information security analysts. Therefore, I will nearly always have a job and a steady source of income. So I can support myself and do something that is both meaningful and lucrative.  Ever since I can remember I have always had a phone, laptop, or gaming console in my hands it is where I found my escape from reality, and during my teen years have become my passion. During my Junior year of high school, I was offered a TCC course on Microsoft systems like Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. I did well in the class and enjoyed it greatly because of how useful it was to know how to circumvent those systems and how they compiled, represented, and calculated data
