A lot of the times, they do so without the knowledge that it’s illegal. However, out of the 11, here are my picks at the top 5 most serious violations listed in order from least serious to most serious.

5. Illegal Searches on the Internet: I believe this one can have serious consequences depending on what is searched. Then again, many people may search illegal items without intentionally knowing what they’re searching is illegal – ie. what they’re searching is of minor consequence but still deemed illegal. Then again, if they’re searching something that they know for fact is illegal, this can be placed higher on the list. The reason this one is so low on the list is because searching things doesn’t necessarily lead to intent, it could genuinely be for research.

4. Faking your Identity Online: This one is heavily dependent on the intentions. I know many people who go by fake names online (gaming platforms, Youtube, etc) to protect themselves and keep up the anonymity. If that’s the case, I don’t see much of an issue with it. However, if the person faking their identity is doing so to steal information, trick an individual, or harm another individual, then that is clearly breaking the law. Identity theft is a serious crime.

3. Sharing Passwords, Addresses, or Photos of Others: When I see this one, I immediately go to someone who is sharing information without consent – or doxxing someone. This is something that is, and should be, very much illegal. There are millions of people on the internet and doxxing something is dangerous, who knows what danger the person doxxed is in because their photos, addresses, and personal information is being shared to the public.

2. Bullying and Trolling: This one is an issue that’s around the globe, whether online or in person. Bullying of any kind should not be tolerated, but bullying online is more prominent (most likely due to the anonymity the online world offers). People are directly affected by bullying and could lead to their own harm mentally and physically. Trolling isn’t as serious of an issue but can be unnecessary and rude.

1. Collecting Information about Children: There’s a clear reason I put this one as the most serious issue out of all 11, and that’s because anything about children is a no-go, especially to children under 13. These are growing humans who still have so much room for development, and they should not be exploited or abused in any way, shape, or form. It goes without saying that this is the worst of the worst.

One of the main reasons I picked these items are my top 5 is because they directly affect humans. These can harm people and put them in danger depending on how they’re done. As for the remaining six, while they are still illegal, they don’t necessarily affect humans and have much less physical and mental consequences.

11 Illegal Things we do Online: https://clario.co/blog/illegal-things-you-do-online/

Andriy Slynchuk has described eleven things Internet users do that may be illegal.
