There are multiple benefits to developing a cybersecurity program in a business, and I dare say that developing one is crucial to the success and safety of a business. The cost of developing a cybersecurity program can range depending on the level of intensity and detail the program has. But by building a cybersecurity program, businesses protect their integrity, confidentiality, and availability of their information.

According to a report, a company can expend to spend 6% to 14% of their annual IT budget on cybersecurity alone. Depending on the size of the business, the cost is expected to rise. Additionally, business are expected to have a yearly budget of less than $500k to $5 million for cybersecurity.

Despite the cost, however, having a cybersecurity program is will save a business form loosing millions of dollars worth of profits and assets. Globally, businesses experience an average of $7.7 million in loses. The initial investment not only saves a company, but also the employees and consumers involved. Overall though, costs of a cybersecurity program can be determined by:

  • Risk management process
  • Size of the company
  • Type of company
  • Employee access to data
  • Types of virus protection software

Cybersecurity programs are capable of protecting digital information that could potentially fall in the wrong hands. People with ill intent are capable of hacking into a company’s database and compromising the information available. Overall however, cybersecurity programs can:

  • Trust: Businesses are built by their consumers. A cybersecurity program gives consumers something to rely on, so that they know their information is going somewhere confidential.
  • Security: Information is properly secured and protected.
  • Cost: By protecting information, businesses protect their monetary assets. The cost of a cyberattack can result in millions of dollars being spent recovering from the damaged business and reputation.
  • Plans: By having a program, businesses are planning for the worst. These plans can ensure that, in the instance the business is attacked, there are ways to easily countermeasure and recover from them.
  • Less Likely to be Attacked: It’s true, with a cybersecurity program, businesses are less likely to be targeted!

Overall, a business is expected to succeed more so by implementing and investing in a cybersecurity program rather than hoping for the best.
