ODU offers a wide variety of degree programs besides Cybersecurity that can relate to cybersecurity in some way. Since cybersecurity is such a interdisciplinary field almost any area of study can relate to cybersecurity in one way or another. For example, here are a few programs offered at ODU that relate to cybersecurity;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Criminal Justice-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This major and area of study looks at cybersecurity as someone on “the other side” of the computer and tries to detect and prevent cyber threats from happening. This major teachers students how to detect cybersecurity threats before the threats are able to happen and tries to impliment a plan on what to do in case something does happen and what policies they should have in place to ensure the least amount of damage is done. People in this career field also look at appropriate responses for the crimes committed due to cyber crime and even our judicial system has cybersecurity policies in place to ensure the most important documents are not seen by anyone who is not authorized to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Psychology-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This area of study is all about studying the mind and functions of a human being. People in this field use their knowledge to try to understand the reasoning behind why cyberthreats happen and what makes people do these things or how they respond to something happening to them. There is a special interest in the cybersecurity field and many psychologist work with cybersecurity professionals to help them create a better system to protem their company from cyber attacks from a more personal point of view. As humans we tend to mimic other people’s actions so if my friend were to hack someone instagram page, I might do it as well to see if I am even able to succeed. Another area of interest for psychologists is how likely we are to trust the emails we get, the texts we get, etc when it comes to cuber threats. If we get a suspicios link sent to us from someone we know why will we still click that link? Psychologists are helping aid professionals in preventing this type of thing from happening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Engineering-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This area of study has many different type of people within this field interested in the principles of cybersecurity. Computer engineers are the ones who come to mind when you think of cybersecurity and they are very much interested in cybersecurity as these two fields often go hand in hand. A computer engineer is asked to create a software for a start-up company so he\/she will need to make a software that will minimize security risk and be able to detect cybersecurity risks while also creating a streamlined system. Almost all engineering systems we use today were created with cybersecurity safety in mind. A huge one that was mentioned in our module is the transportation system. If someone gains access to this system, trains could collide, emergency systems and notifications could be disabled on highways, and even more could happen. Engineers create systems that we implement in our day to day lives with the thought of minimizing cybersecurity risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Information Technology-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This major is what I think of when I think what area of study most relates to cybersecurity mainly because it has to do with computers. This area of study focuses on the protection of the data that is collected by a certain software and protects it as well as protects the technology itself when its being used by an organization.This major also focuses on “the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware” as noted in my module.This goes hand in hand with the 5 activities of the NIST’s framework so these two professionals work hand in hand to ensure a system is running smoothly but also as safe as possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" ODU offers a wide variety of degree programs besides Cybersecurity that can relate to cybersecurity in some way.
