Status of writing skills at the end of week five

At the end of week five I felt like the writing review session helped me to improve my writing skills and build my confidence. The writing review session gave me direct feedback, good and bad, and it helped me to point out the mistakes I was making. Now that I know how to prevent these mistakes, I can become a better writer.

Now that I am able to write better, I feel more comfortable with writing papers and letting others read it to give me feedback. Having my classmates read my essays give me strategies that I could potentially use, which will help me to improve my writing. Also, having a classmate review my writing helps me to catch simple mistakes that I wasn’t aware of. They also get to give their input and ideas, which may increase my grade on the essay.

After the peer review session, I learned better steps to improve my essays. Writing three main points and elaborating on them gives me an idea for my body and conclusion paragraphs. Another thing I took from the peer review session is reading my paper out loud. Whether I am reading the paper to myself or someone else, I can catch the small errors I made, for example a typo. I also found other ways to use personal pronouns instead of constantly using “you” and “I.” By using the same pronouns, or words in general it makes my paper repetitive and boring.

To sum it all up, I feel that going to these sessions really improved my ability to write good papers. I learned that I should not be afraid to seek the help that I need. There is always someone who is willing to help, which may not only improve my writing skills, but also my confidence.
