Doing things like having a strong authentication whether you have more advanced ways like biometric authentication which includes things like fingerprints, face scans, etc. or even just using a password or a pin. In most cases, a password or PIN is used, and setting up a password is one of the first things you do when setting up a computer. Using stronger more complex passwords is a great practice to use to also aid your computer security. The stronger the password the harder it is for a brute force attack to be successful although it can be harder to memorize it makes it less vulnerable to these types of attacks. Multi-step authentication is also a great tool that can be utilized when addressing the safety of a computer. Using these things can only add to the protection of the computer adding extra walls of security that have to be gone through to gain access. Also, things like enabling a firewall could be very effective. Keeping up with your computer and being cautious of the activities that you engage in while working on your computer also goes into the safety of the computer. Things like updates to your computer so it can always be up to date and being weary of suspicious websites and emails so that you are not a victim of phishing or other types of attacks. Also, be careful when in public there are many things to be cautious of things like shoulder surfing attacks when people try to pick up on your password by watching you put it in. Other things like connecting to public wifi can also be dangerous because a person can easily hack into the server and steal information that way as well.
