Cyber technology has opened the door to many things some good and some bad. You can come across these things everywhere, but specifically inside the workplace, it has opened up opportunities for deviance to be displayed. Deviance is when rule-breaking behavior is displayed that is not usual, especially in sexual and social behaviors. Within the workplace, due to cyber technology, this action can occur more often and easily. With cyber technology it allows users to attack and affect others without being in the same room or vicinity as the victim. This can be displayed in many different ways one example could be cyber bullying. Cyberbullying is exactly what it sounds like bullying a person over an electronic device. It can be expressed in the form of sending uncomfortable messages to coworkers to even getting to the level of threatening them. Another example of how cyber technology can create opportunities for deviant behavior within the workplace is when you have unhappy employees who feel the need to lash out or attack the company to get even or some type of retaliation. This can create many vulnerabilities and threats for the company since in some cases the act could go undetected. Accounting for human actions can be very difficult inside the cyber world and if an employee were to leak information which is not accepted behavior it can have many consequences. These consequences can include things from allowing easier access to hacking or sensitive information depending on the level of authorization the employee has consequences can be even worse. All in all, cyber technology has created many opportunities for deviance to be displayed within the workplace and it comes in many forms and its own problems along with it. Workplace deviance will always be an issue, but it is the things done to prepare and be ready for when these unfortunate outcomes come about.
