After years of substitute teaching in the K-12 system, I began teaching English composition and literature courses at a variety of California Community Colleges in 2012. Since 2014 I have been full-time at Mt San Jacinto College<\/a>\u2019s San Jacinto campus, where I earned tenure in 2018. In addition to teaching a wide variety of face-to-face courses, I have been teaching online for MSJC for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am a first generation college student who believes in the power of the California Community College system, largely because I am product of it. I didn\u2019t start off as a strong student; my first semester was a disaster that took me years to recover from (6 years to transfer, to be exact). Over the course of my education, I went from having no educational goals to graduating with distinction from not only MSJC but also from UCLA (Manga Cum Laude), where I earned my BA, and CSULB (Outstanding Graduate Student), where I earned my MA. I was lucky to find wonderfully motivating professors by my second year of community college attendance, and it truly changed my life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am working on my dissertation in ODU’s English PhD program wherein I am studying the intersections between various areas of English Studies, including rhetoric and composition, technical and science writing, literature, and post-secondary English education. My dissertation will focus on the rhetoric of science in scholarly and popular periodicals in 18th century England and the wider British Empire. My MA focused on body politics and reproduction in medieval and early modern English literature, but I consider myself a generalist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I am not teaching, I enjoy traveling to distant places and exploring different cultures. Born and raised in Southern California, I enjoy warm weather, sushi, avocados, beaches, snowboarding, and year-round outdoor dining. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
