I’m interested in e-sport management or IT work in similar fields of entertainment and could be something to pursue. I have a background in equipment crew for marching band and that could come in handy. The type of career I want is not a boring computer job but a fulfilling one that can be fun and still challenging for me.

Related activities:

Equipment crew had me setting up huge speakers and getting wireless headphones connected. I work at the VSO (Virginia Symphony Orchestra) and setup a keyboard and power grids for lights often. I game very frequently and have built 3 gaming pcs in my life and helped build around 10 others. Other than that I enjoy factory games and puzzles which retain to solving issues in coding and cybersecurity.

Labs for Linux:

Lab 1 installing VM

This lab was simple, installing the virtual Machine handsome basic commands to ensure it’s working. This showed me how to use a Virtual machine for Linux

Lab 2 working with command line

This lab showed me how many different command lines there are and how to add delete and shift around directories. The basics are very important for coding and computers and fundamentals can take you a long way. There were not many challenges in completing this assignment.

Lab 3 working with Vi editor

Vi editor showed me how to edit files in command line for Linux. It also showed the different modes for Vi. Now I can edit documents in command line. It was a bit difficult to read the command lines but now I can.

Lab 4 Group and User Management

This lab showed me how to edit groups of accounts on Linux and how to manage permissions for users. This is useful for future management. Wasn’t very challenging and is pretty straight forward, very useful.

Lab 5 Password cracking

This is where you really learn how to type passwords without seeing them. Since Linux hides typed passwords it was difficult to type the passwords to hack correctly. The Jack the Ripper program worked well but took 10 minutes to only get 4 of them. Shows why CPU’s are useful. This helps me know what tools a hacker might have and shows how password protection and complicity is very important.

Lab 6 File Permissions

Shows how to add users to groups and limit resources/allow resources and generally show show to give users parameters. some difficulty in typing out each command but gave a good example of how the process would look.

Lab 7 Linux Systems for Cybersecurity

This lab shows how to create patricians and mess with physical disks. A lot of the issues I had with the assignment just required a little backtracking and googling to fix but ultimately wasn’t too bad. This info will be good for managing a large amount of data on Linux if I ever need to do that.

Lab 8 Shell scripting

Finally we get to script and make programs in the editor! This is very useful for a huge variety of reasons. The hardest part was knowing the script commands but the notes helped with that. Coding is my favorite part of classes like this so doing the script was fun.

Lab 9 Task Automation

This was by far the hardest lab for me. I forgot ‘ and ” are completely different and spent 30 minutes trying many different ways to debug my code and why my variables weren’t taking. It teaches how to run scripts for backup automation and Cron scheduling. Backups were the main thing to understand and now I can make a simple auto backup program for the future!

Lab 10 Networking basics

It’s important to understand ip addresses and how thing are going to flow in networks. It also shows how to transfer ip addresses into binary which can be useful to understand. We also learned in class there are limited IPV4 addresses and we need to adopt a IPV6 model for more bits. This lab took a bit of careful reading with typing out binary and trying to transfer numbers into binary.

Lab 11 Basic Network Configuration
This lab shows the difference in Nat and bridged VM behavior. Bridged makes the VM act similar to its own machine and Nat integrated it to the host pc (default). Its important to know you can separate them if needed for management purposes. Overall, the lab helps you understand how virtual machines connect to networks and how networking changes based on different adapter configurations.

My Professional goals are to be able to work remotely and be able to use computers in daily life because I always enjoy being on them.
