Hey guys I’m back and I have another blog for you. I’m going to be talking about how important it is for a sports organization to have social media for their online campaigns. To get started, one of the main reasons and probably the main reason it’s important to have social media is because that’s the main way you can communicate and relay information to not only your followers, but any and everyone. Social media is how you’ll primarily interact with your followers and keep them engaged in any and all campaigns you want to do. It also sets the foundation for you to start building those relationships with your followers so that they’ll be more likely to engage in whatever campaign you want to promote.
One main thing that will affect these online campaigns is the evolution of social media. Social media is constantly changing and evolving so sports organizations will have to figure out a way to navigate through the “new media” as the reading describes it. But another important point I have to make from the reading is that followers and likes don’t tell the whole story! I have to use this as an example, but in class we’re currently doing a social media audit where we analyze data from our respective sports we have to watch over and I have baseball. So many people see the posts but very little actually interact. You’ll have 57,000 views but 28 retweets/likes. If you’re running a campaign, you have to make sure it grabs the reader’s attention so they don’t gloss over it!
”Don’t ask if your dreams are crazy, ask if they’re crazy enough” is a quote from Colin Kaepernick that Nike used in a social media campaign. This is an example of a social media campaign done right because it does things that I mentioned above in the previous paragraphs. Nike evolved and decided to talk about something bigger than themselves, than their brand and it’s because of that that it made such a huge impact on people because it’s something we resonated with. They sided with Colin Kaepernick and used his voice to help inspire others and the result of that had some people saying Nike will end up on the right side of history. Nike advocating for social justice rights helped build their brand and made people not only want to wear their gear but be proud of wearing it. People are paying attention at Nike showing humanity to an issue that many people don’t want to talk about and they want to stand by them. That is a campaign done right
