With national news constantly featuring new cyber attacks against businesses of all sizes. Smaller businesses are starting to wonder about the risks they face when they don\u2019t have some sort of cyber defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As with many core business functions, cybersecurity costs money. Therefore, you need to make space in your budget for cybersecurity. The need for cybersecurity is not going away anytime soon, in fact, the need is only increasing, especially for smaller businesses. Therefore, it\u2019s important for businesses to see cybersecurity as a financial, business, and practical priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cybersecurity affects all businesses, no matter the size. In fact, about half of all cyber-attacks. With the addition of protecting your business, there are other reasons companies budget for cybersecurity. Such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Pressure from their board of directors and\/or stakeholders<\/li><li>Compliance standards (HIPAA, PCI DSS, etc.)<\/li><li>Vendor requirements<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This may all sound expensive but in the long run it will be worth it, especially since you will lose more in a successful cyber-attack. Recent studies have shown that the average cost of a breach to a small business can range from $120k-$1.24 million, and this is only for smaller businesses. Let\u2019s step out of the small business bubble and into the corporation world. According to an IBM study conducted in 2019, the average cost of a breach was $3.92 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The price you should spend on your cybersecurity team varies. It depends on a few factors, 1) the size of your company, 2) the compliance and regulations required for your company, 3) the sensitivity of your data, and 4) requests from company stakeholders. The actual amount you will spend is usually tied to the IT budget.
