Discussion Post 6- (YouTube)

YouTube, the social media website home to billions of users. YouTube has helped create such an open platform that has made media shareable and easily accessible to users on the internet. With that kind of access users have helped create a platform made for mass-communication and mass self-communication. Mass communication refers to getting other users involved in the media on social platforms. YouTube provides the best example for this because videos are uploaded and shared through the users that use the site. With this the media is able to be shared and other users are able to participate and get involved with the content that is provided. Mass self-communication relates to the content that the YouTube’s themselves provide. This form of communication is the personal content that is provided on YouTube, this content still allows us, as users to be connected to other users through videos and comments that can be said on videos. This ultimate form of communication helps users across the globe stay connected and informed on what goes on in the social world, keeping everyone connected.

In today’s culture in branding, brands have transformed in the way that they spread their brands name. They use the YouTubers that make videos to try to sell and give their product the exposure that it needs to be successful. They try to take a look at the amount of followers a YouTuber will have and if they have a large fan base their brand will be received at a higher rate. Social influencers, who are the YouTubers who provide the content use their fan base to spread brands. They promote different products and ideas and can make a brand what it is. This exposure then leads to user generated content where the users themselves can get involved in what is trying to be portrayed in these brands. And anyone can get involved. This is what makes YouTube such an easy platform to utilize. You can get involved making it user friendly where people actually want to use it. Commercialization helps this along because users that go to watch videos see ads that play before almost every video. So as it is, we as the users are open to various forms of branding and commercialized content. Through the uses of YouTube brands have definitely been used for the good to try to get a brands name out there. The way in which technology is evolving is changing at a rapid rate, with this media is becoming more user friendly and user generated.
