Having information in the tip of our hands is so much easier, especially in this generation. Younger folks, including myself would want to access every little thing in an instant. Some of these information can be stored recklessly. For example, not having a strong password to your personal workstation. I am guilty of leaving my laptop unlock and all my usernames and password saved on my iCloud keychain. This all can be an ethical issue when it comes to cybersecurity. There are four ethical issues that arises and every indicidual should be concern about when storing information electronically.

First is consent and transparency. Most users are not aware or understand how all their personal data is being collected, used, shared by online. Most of us will have a difficulty understanding the policies and some will not read the fine print sometimes on how to protect our data. This lack of user information regarding consent and transparency will cause them to lose trust and have doubt in the business.

Next is privacy. This issue focuses on how computer and its capacity to store and organized user’s records that is being put online. People will tpe in their information online without knowing how browers or website store and exchange their information to different online platform. People’s personal information will become vulnerable as a result.

Third ethical issue that arises is the limitation of the purpose of the data that is being stored. For example, employers who will access their employees records and use it without their employees permission. Furthermore, businesses that have a record of an individual and sell it to third-parties without the person’s consent.

Lastly is fairness and discrimination. This will fall on the category of when a person apply for a job and the emploer will use their records to deny the job to the person. For example, having a criminal background. Employers will use this factor of denying someone for a job when it is not related to the career that the person is pursing.

These four ethical issue is the basic knowledge that we need to be fully aware and to know how to handle our private data that we store online. Although it is convenient for us to access all these information while in front of the computer, let us all remember that there are potential consequences if we do not store our data properly.
