Taking this Sport Communication class helped me understand how important communication is in sports today. Before this class, I mostly looked at sports from a player\u2019s point of view, but throughout the semester I started realizing how much goes on behind the scenes. Things like social media, interviews, news coverage, and athlete branding all have a big impact on how players and teams are viewed. Sports and media are connected more than ever now, and that\u2019s something I did not really think about before this class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the biggest things I learned was how fast information spreads in sports. Social media changed everything. A big play, interview, or controversy can happen and within minutes everyone is talking about it online. I think learning about this will help me in the future because communication matters a lot whether I end up playing professionally or coaching baseball at the college level. Knowing how to represent yourself and communicate with players, coaches, and media is important in sports now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The assignments in this class also made everything feel more real and hands on. Creating the Sport Journal on WordPress was probably one of the most useful parts for me because it gave me a chance to write about sports in my own way and share my opinions. I also liked the athlete activism assignment because it showed how sports can connect to bigger issues outside the game and how media changes the way people react to those moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Sport Professional Penpal assignment was another part that helped me a lot. Talking with Ryan gave me insight into the sports world and helped me learn more about recruiting, player development, and networking. It made me realize how important connections are in sports and how communication can open opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overall, this class helped me see sports differently. It showed me that communication is a huge part of athletics and something that affects players, coaches, teams, and fans every day.
