Cyber technology has created opportunities for workplace deviance because it is another way employees can violate the law or put themselves and or the company at risk. While there have been advancements in measures to protect businesses and individuals they come after some kind of damage has already been done. An example given was about the processing of credit cards and how things have changed to better protect customer information and business reputation, however, there are still ways that hackers and criminals are using to get ahold of sensitive information. Even the actual business itself can have a threat posed to them by their own employee. These kinds of violating fall under white-collar crimes. This can range from many things like an employee giving their business login credentials to a person outside company employment. It can also be an employee stealing information and selling it to competitors, or something as simple as an employee gaining access to information that is beyond their need to fulfill their duties in the workplace. In some cases, employees can put themselves or the business at risk and not even know it. This can happen by opening and or responding to suspicious emails or viewing inappropriate content than can cause viruses on the device being used. It is important to note that being a repeat offender of such cases can cause increased frustration and even lead to termination after a series of warnings and retaining.
As a means of protection, there are many things a company can do to protect themselves and their customers. Businesses can create fake scenarios to test their employees in order to gauge how well the training is. They can also create individual accounts for employees ( which is convenient to reference), and limit employee authority to access of make modifications to data.
