Rank the motives you think make the most sense on a scale from 1 to 7, and explain why you ranked each motive the way you ranked it. (Week 5)

  1. For Money – This motive makes the most sense as in the day in age, money makes the world go round. Those that don’t have it want it, and those that have it, want more of it.
  2. Political – This motive can be very impactful for the perpetrators, gaining a supercharged feeling to make a change. Whether it be to help their cause or hinder someone else’s.
  3. Entertainment – I believe this desire is understood by all. When you have or know something cool, you want to show it off, it doesn’t matter if it was ill-gotten or not. The criminal enjoys the high feeling of committing the crime.
  4. Recognition – People love to be seen. Those that have the skills to pull off a complicated task will build a reputation that could hinder or assist them.
  5. Multiple Reasons – This motive seems to be a combination of all other motives. It listed lower as there are no specific reasons listed. This motive seems as if it should float between all the other levels.
  6. Revenge – When someone is seeking revenge, all they want is retribution for their conceived wronging. I am not a vengeful person, so this motive is placed low for me.
  7. Boredom – Boredom as a motive makes the least sense to me. If you simply commit a crime because there is nothing better to do, it’s time to put your skills to better use somewhere else. (Not to say laws should be broken if you do have something better to do).
