After listening to Davin’s TED Talk, I found it quite interesting to see the large shift he made in his career. Davin started with an accounting background, where understanding financial systems, finding needles in haystacks through analysing data, proper reporting, and many other skills are all daily aspects of life. Once he transitioned to digital forensics, some of the foundational skills that were developed previously were able to be easily transferred, such that investigating financial fraud or embezzlement wouldn’t be farfetched in his new workplace, and something that could be jumped into with determination. Davin’s Journey into his new career is apparent that having multiple disciplines that are grounded in technical know-how and social science insights can be very useful in new and dynamic careers.
Watch the attached video and think about how the career of digital forensics investigators relates to the social sciences. Write a journal entry describing what you think about the speaker’s pathway to his career.
