The 6 principles of science, Determinism, Empiricism, Ethical neutrality, Objectivity, Pasimony, and Relativism can be related in a variety of ways to cybersecurity.
Determinism is of the mind that behaviors are the result of preceding events. Such as an organization implementing countermeasures for a system based on knowledge of the results of previous cyber incidents.
Empiricism ensures that behaviors are measurable via our senses (See, Smell, Touch). This can be thought of as making operational, strategic, or policy-related decisions based on real-world data or evidence of results, rather than using opinions on what might work or theories on how things could go.
When standards are to be upheld, Ethical neutrality is the principle of science being adhered to. This principle extends protection to the rights of individuals. Their data should always be protected. Organizations have many ways they can accomplish, though all ways are not equal.
Objectivity is the act of viewing topics without bias or opinion. Knowledge is power. Imagine a decision on the purchase of software was needed, though the evaluation was skewed based on the preference a manager had due to a program that’s used in his home or a previous position. This biased decision could negatively impact the organization by not being properly suited for their needs.
Pasimony keeps the level of explanation to questions as simple as possible to have others better understand and possibly use the information for a variety of purposes. In cybersecurity, the easiest answer may not be the easiest to explain but not everyone may be at the same expertise level in a room. Utilizing Pasimony assists in flattening the curve, to better assist in getting everyone on the same page.
Relativism states all things are related in some way. Akin to the butterfly effect. With developments in medicine, technology has had to continue developing. The medical industry wouldn’t be able to remain on the cutting edge if both industries didn’t have a cause-and-effect relationship.
