How can you tell if your computer is safe?

There are many different ways for your computer to be unsafe. Your computer could have viruses without you even knowing. Some viruses hide in files that you probably don’t even know about. Ways to keep your computer safe is downloaded anti-virus/malware onto your computer. Using that software on a normal bases (having scheduled scans) can help prevent long term damage from any other treats.

Another way would be keeping your computer updated. When you keep your computer updated that allows the software to be at its best protection. The software updates often fix security patches, bug fixes, and can often have new features. Fixing the security patches can help minimize the risk of malware infections or security breaches. Not only should your computer be up to date but your anti-virus/malware should also be up to date.

When you are safe your computer is also safe. Making sure your passwords are well-chosen and protected from the outside world. One bad password exposure could lead to someone having access to your entire computer. Such as your files, personal information, hardware, and any other passwords and card information just off your computer.

You can also keep your computer on a backup external hard drive. It can either be a physical hard drive or an online cloud backup. These backups store all information that is on your computer and allows you to access it if anything bad happens on said computer. The hard drives have the stored data without the treat being attached.

The anti-malware/ virus will also protect your computer and depending on what software you have on your computer it can also protect your emails, websites, and the files you already have on the device. I use Trend Micro Antivirus, and that virus protector protects my emails, websites, and searches through all of my files to protect from treats. I also have a free malware protector called Malwarebytes. That searches for malware that my antivirus cannot find or remove.
