Computers are fairly new and as time progresses, and we get more and more advanced people wonder if they should have ever been created. Using technology gets scarier by the day, but there are also ways that it makes the world safer. Computers have made the world safer because of biometric recognition systems and security alerts. The world is less safe because of social media and just the internet in general.
Biometric recognition is a system that can verify that you are who you are by your biological characteristics. This sounds complicated, but an example would be the face ID on your iPhone. Some other ways you can be identified are by your fingerprints, iris patterns, and voice. This is extremely beneficial to your safety because our bodies are so unique. It is nearly impossible to hack into something when your fingerprint or iris is the password.
Security alerts are another way in which computers or technology make the world safer. You can get alerts directly to your phone about pretty much anything. When someone logs into your account, you will know it. When someone uses your credit card, you will know. When someone tries to break into your home or car, you will know. Then after you get an alert, you can say that it was not you and fix the issue. Two-factor authentication on your phone is also important because you need your phone to log in. An example of that would be Duo Mobile.
There are many ways computers make the world a safer place, but one way that it doesn’t is social media. Two ways I can say that social media makes the world less safe is because of the bullying and doxing that has been occurring more frequently. Doxing is when a person’s personally identifiable information is spread without consent. This happens more frequently with celebrities, but it can happen to the rest of us too. Bullying is also an issue because this can lead to death.
