Cyber security professionals have great institutional power in this era. In recent years, most business transactions and general information have been stored digitally or, in the case of many retailers and banks, entirely online. To ensure data security, institutions must hire cybersecurity professionals to protect and ensure the security and integrity of their digital assets. These assets can include everything from customer information to trade secrets and even financial or legal data that is critical or highly valuable to the day-to-day operations of the organization. where they cannot recover. In such cases, those charged with protecting these assets may abuse their authority in ways that may harm the institution they are charged with protecting. While many of these individuals are tasked with protecting their employer’s information, some may use this power to sabotage them or use access rights for their own benefit. They can take customer data and sell it to deviant individuals or groups for profit. Similarly, they may sell trade secrets to the institution’s competitors, hoping to make a profit either through direct subsidies or to influence them for their own benefit. Some may try to completely sabotage an institution’s digital presence. This can be done by destroying existing production resources or day-to-day systems that require lengthy setups, setup costs or data accumulated over time. Deleting or destroying this information will block or completely disable the device if it is completely online.
