How does your major relate to cybersecurity technology? I’m a cybersecurity major. My major is interdisciplinary and meant to give students a well rounded grounding in cybersecurity with courses ranging from tech to law and policy. I’m taking classes in writing, interdisciplinary studies, technology, criminology and law.

Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how those majors relate to cybersecurity.

Cyber operations is another approach to cyber security. It focuses on blending computer science with cyber security. It’s a more technical approach to the field.

Computer Science is the major for those who develop code such as antivirus, operating systems and software firewalls. They also have a good background for reverse engineering malware.

Business majors must prioritize cyber security spending. Business is all about managing risk and continuing operations fruitfully. They can take classes in policy and cyber law.

Psychology Don’t forget the human element. Psychologists understand human behavior. Social engineers are a type of hacker that manipulate human behavior to bypass cyber defenses. Whether it’s tailgating or pretending to be someone from the IT help desk, these hackers know how to use people to bypass logical and physical defenses.
