During the last 167 of my internship, I had the opportunity to connect with different organizations. The YMCA hosted a Health Promotion fair for the Granby community. This health promotion fair focused on providing resources for women that promote a healthy lifestyle. Organizations such as Sentara health, finance resources and alternative medicine such as holistic therapy. At this fair I had the opportunity to meet with different financial advisors and connect with Sentara’s outreach program. From this experience, I expanded my knowledge to management and finances which allowed me to narrow down my career goals. I got a glance at the financial perspective of organizations and how much work managers put into managing a company’s money. Aside from the experience I gained from the health promotion fair and the YMCA’s financial department, I also continued working with the students at YellowHab, where we completed our last few seminars of the intern’s ‘Wellness Wednesday’ project. Our last few ‘Wellness Wednesday’ presentations consisted of a cook off which promoted healthy snacks for the students, as well as a presentation from ODU’s dental committee. The interns and I went shopping for the cookoff and purchased various food options, such as rice cakes, fruits and veggie trays. During the cook off, the students were grouped and they had to create their own snack and present it to the judges. While planning for the last few ‘Wellness Wednesday’ Seminars I gained organizational and decision-making skills. I also feel as if I grew more compassionate and patient while working with the students, overall the whole experience allowed me to grow.
