Goal 1: To obtain the knowledge necessary to perform administrative operations within the organization. In order to achieve this goal during my practical experience, I would need to closely observe executive directors, board members and CEO’s within the YMCA organization. I will need to attend board meetings and take notes of the operational standpoint being poured into each meeting. I would also need to participate in administrative decision making in order to gain the necessary experience of implementing decision making skills for an organization. As an intern at the YMCA, I have connected with board members of the facility. I will continue working closely with board members to develop strategies that will ensure efficiency within the organization.

Goal 2: To gain a HR point of view within an organization. I would like to develop a better an understanding of financial procedures utilized by the YMCA facility. In order to so, I would need to set up an interview with an HR manager and discuss budgeting procedures and learn more about the techniques used to create the budget for the YMCA. If possible, I would like a manager to allow me to participate in a budgeting procedure that would allow me to understand what it takes to implement budgets within a facility. I would also like to discuss hiring and firing techniques with HR. I want to gain a better understanding of the process behind hiring a new employee and techniques used when firing an employee.

Goal 3: To gain a better understanding of how to maintain the culture within an organization. This will allow me to expand my knowledge towards running my own hospital branch. Company culture is the formal and informal aspect of the behaviors and values practiced within the facility. In order to accomplish this goal I would need to conduct research on the YMCA’s mission and vision for the facility. After assessing the YMCA’s mission, I would then observe the facility, staff, and guest that utilize the facility on a day to day and determine if those values are being practiced. After assessing the company, I would want to sit down with a manager and discuss the aspects of company culture and determine how and why they implemented the culture present at the YMCA.
