Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how those majors relate to Cybersecurity.
The first major that I chose is the one that I believe to be the most closely related to Cybersecurity. Computer Science has been the major that many people with careers in Cybersecurity have studied before it grew to be where it is today. Computer Science is like a heading category over Cybersecurity. Computer Science majors mainly focus on computers, what makes them work, and how they can contribute to that process. Cybersecurity dives deeper into that process and focuses on ways to protect that system. The next major I chose is Computer Engineering. I chose this major because it is also entangled in Computer Science as well as Cybersecurity. It connects to both because this major focuses on how to develop hardware and software to make it work properly. It connects to cybersecurity through the security aspect. For example, the system needs to be protected and these majors can collaborate to figure a process to make the system work without sacrificing the system’s security. The third major that I chose is Information Technology. This major focuses on all of the software components and minor details that work together to form a working system that in turn can be used to communicate. Whether studying or having a career in Cybersecurity, you need to be able to understand some of the key ideas within information technology to be able to fully understand cyber. As a student, these majors often take each other’s courses because of how closely related they are. The last major that I chose is Business. One of the many necessities of a business is Cybersecurity. I believe that it is important for a business major to also know and understand the security that a business needs to set in place order to protect itself, their employees, and their customers.
