At ODU there are many different majors and some of them even relate to cybersecurity. The most obvious one is the cybersecurity major. It is literally called cybersecurity and has to do with all things related to cybersecurity. It teaches the skills necessary to protect computer systems, networks, and online data from attack and compromise. Students will learn how to troubleshoot and to identify potential security lapses through classroom instruction, hands-on computer lab sessions and opportunities to participate in research projects. These are the things that you will learn in cybersecurity. The next major related to cybersecurity is computer science. In computer science you will learn how to thrive in software development, computer science, and other related professions or graduate programs. It also allows students to gain exposure to the basis of computer science in mathematics, logic, and engineering, as well as the experimental and design aspects of the computer science discipline. Another cybersecurity related major that ODU offers is cyber operations. Cyber operations is a complementary discipline to cybersecurity and the one at ODU is one of the only two programs in Virginia. Cyber operations is an interdisciplinary major encompassing the entire scope of cyberspace and related operations that are both technical and non-technical (i.e., ethical, legal, human-centered, etc.) in nature. It places a particular emphasis on technologies and techniques applicable to all operational and system levels. The last major I am going to talk about is Information technology or better known as IT. The Information Systems and Technology program at ODU offers a unique combination of business knowledge and technical skills that prepares undergraduate students for success in the highly competitive and increasingly technical business world of the twenty-first century. All of these majors overlap each other to some degree so they are very useful to each other and you could get a job in these fields with any of these majors.
