I am currently undecided for my major but I am leaning towards declaring a Criminal Justice major. Criminal Justice and Cyber Security are very similar. Cyber Security is basically the Criminal Justice of the digital age. In the modern world, cybersecurity experts take on the position of conventional criminal justice system law enforcement officers. They are the first line of defense in the fight against cybercrime. They have an innate ability to recognize ways to undermine or compromise processes by using them in unexpected ways. Criminal justice is the process of identifying, apprehending, judging, and punishing offenders and criminals. Law enforcement, the judiciary, and corrections are all part of a conventional criminal justice system. Law enforcement investigates whether a crime is committed. The courts take over after a suspect is apprehended. Now we’ve entered the digital age, which brings with it new technology and ways of interacting with other people and machines. Criminal justice in this sense isn’t so much about handling crime and punishment as it is about increasing transparency, participation, and public trust, mostly in a virtual setting.
However, criminal justice is not the only major that is related to cyber security. A major that you can take directly related to this class is actually having a cyber security major. This major explains itself because it is called cyber security. Another major you can take related to cyber security is computer science. Computer science encompasses everything that has to do with computers and computing. Cyber security is part of the field of computer science. Another major you can declare that is related to cyber security is computer engineering. Engineers protect sensitive data against an ever-evolving array of threats by applying their skills in areas like systems architecture, machine learning, modeling, and reverse engineering. The last major you can take that relates to cyber security is Information Technology. Again, this is another generic major that you can go many routes with including cyber security.
