The internet provides a wealth of opportunities to hurt and victimize others on a scale that was previously unimaginable. Offenders may use the internet to target people or use the internet to find the personal details of people they are stalking or harassing in real life.  People tend to post a lot of personal information online, especially on social media, which criminals can use against you. Posting pictures while on holiday, for example, may warn a potential criminal that your home is vacant and vulnerable to robbery.  Another way the internet sets people up to be victimized is by putting something that was meant to be private on a public form, posting it without their permission, or even using it to blackmail them. These can also go viral at times. Perhaps scarier, there have been reports of webcams on personal computers being hacked.  Predators flourish on the internet as well, attempting to persuade their victims to meet them in person, most likely with malicious intent.  The internet isn’t without its flaws, but advances in cyber technology can help make it a safer place in the future.
