The cost of a data breach is determined by the type of information that was compromised. A company will lose an average of $4 billion due to the loss of consumer personal information and other confidential data.  Businesses should put money into cybersecurity and create a strategy. This will allow a company to plan for an attack before it occurs or respond appropriately if one occurs. This also adds a layer of security to a company’s customer base. Being able to safeguard all confidential data, not only for consumers but also for the company.  Employees must be properly educated on the various types of cyber risks they can face, as well as establish a plan of action in the event that an attack is detected.  The first thing you should do when determining if your computer is safe is test your settings.  This will check your passwords to make sure they are strong and cannot be breached by any hackers.  It will also check to make sure you get automatic updates.  The next thing you can do to keep your computer safe is update your browser plug-ins.  After that you should test your firewall.  A firewall keeps hackers from seeing your computer while you are online.  Another thing you should do is permanently delete any sensitive files or information you no longer need.  Because if you do not delete them permanently then they can easily be recovered by hackers.
