Computers have benefited our lives in many ways. It makes shopping easier. With a click of a button, someone can order their entire groceries list delivered right to their door. It also makes it easier to carry and read books since everyone can carry an entire bookshelf worth of books in the palm of their hands. However, the thing that human society can benefit from technology is making it a better place.
The world is a safer place with the use of computers because they can help collect and process evidence to put criminals in prison. Before computers, many criminals would be released from custody because the judicial system could not gather enough evidence to declare them guilty of their crimes. Another way the world is safer is that computers help defend against fraud. Credit cards use to have to be carbon copied with a sliding machine. This data could easily be stolen with dumpster diving if the carbon copies were not disposed of properly. Also, it takes days to be able to process the credit card so the customer would be long gone before the store or restaurant realizes that it is declined. Lastly, computers make the world a safer place by providing reviews and words of advice on places people are interested in traveling to. For example, there are many dangerous places in Mexico and with the aid of the internet, a traveler would know what streets to avoid at night, and what cities to avoid altogether.
Every coin has a second side no matter the value. With this being said, computers could also make things dangerous. For example, if a computer user is not aware of what links he clicks on this can expose him to a backdoor door virus. This could potentially allow the victim’s camera to be operated without their knowledge evading their privacy. Also, a computer user can fall victim to a phishing attempt and have their entire life savings drained. The last downfall of computers is how much personal information is stored on them. If someone is able to gain access to a computer with malicious intent, then they would have access to all sorts of social security numbers and credit card numbers.
