About Me
My name is Julia Moretz, and I am currently attending Old Dominion University as a senior undergraduate. I came to Old Dominion University with a completed Associate’s Degree in Science that I obtained from Tidewater Community College. I am completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Biology at Old Dominion University in order to fulfill my dreams of becoming a veterinarian. Once I achieve my Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, I will proceed to graduate school where I will be getting my PhD in veterinary medicine. I have yet to decide on the school I will be attending to achieve this degree, but some of my options are North Carolina University, Virginia Tech, or the University of Florida. Throughout my schooling experience this far, I have been lucky enough to get opportunities to work hands on with many different veterinarians and veterinary technicians. I have shadowed veterinarians and veterinary technicians at hospitals such as the Nansemond Veterinary Hospital and the Midway Veterinary Hospital. I also was fortunately able to get the special opportunity to participate in a surgical procedure within a U.S. Military Research Lab. This surgical procedure’s purpose was to test a specific medication that was created on pigs to simulate the reaction that the human body would have to the medication if administered. This was such an amazing opportunity for me, and it was also the truly defining moment of my life where I knew without a doubt that no matter what, I would reach my goal of becoming a veterinarian. I am currently shadowing at the Harbour Veterinary Office in Suffolk, Virginia. This is something I do once or twice a week with Dr. Kate Henderson, who owns the practice with her husband, Dr. Adam Henderson, who is on the Veterinary Medicine Board of Virginia Tech.
