Cyber security engineers protect systems in multiple ways. First, they create their own systems that can secure a network. Instead of using various programs online, some may choose to make their own and tailor them to their specific needs instead of being restricted to pre-made programs. Of course, they can use programs from other sources instead of their own. Engineers usually make it so that these networks effectively communicate with other networks to ensure that it can efficiently respond to an attack using data from a previous attack. A security network is the keystone of the network itself, if the security network is compromised, so is the entire network. Engineers may also take physical measures to protect their networks if they deem it necessary. The engineers will likely ensure that the system is running in top shape by ensuring that their software is constantly checking for updates, or they update it themselves. It is important to update software as I will usually contain security fixes with each new update. They will also likely install firewalls to ensure that unwanted data or information stays outside the system, and that sensitive information remains inside the system and out of the hands of unauthorized individuals. Speaking of authorization, an engineer will probably deal with users or individuals by controlling who can or cannot access a system or dictate what they can do in said system. Of course, the engineer can let the system run itself but it is important that they routinely monitor the systems to ensure they are running properly and aren’t running into any problems. Machines are perfect and are bound to make mistakes when not given adequate information to deal with a scenario. This is why, as mentioned earlier, it is good that networks communicate with each other to deal with attacks within their systems. Engineers have a large list of measurements to deal with such attack as the information they are safeguarding is usually entrusted to them by important individuals.
