My second major, Criminal Justice/Criminology relates to Cybersecurity. Criminology focuses on different things that may relate to it. For example, it would focus on what would be the appropriate judicial response for those offenders who threaten secure systems, whether it be punishment via jail time, or discussing damages. It also explores things such as: who, how, and when they commit these cyber offenses. Due to their connection, the term ‘cybercriminology’ was coined by Jaishankar.

Computer science may seem like an obvious answer, and that’s because it is. Computer science has much to do with computers and their many phenomena. Cybersecurity is one such phenomena. It has a lot to do with the integration of systems such as hardware and software, things that are vulnerable to any outside threats, such as hacking or other types of infiltration like viruses. Cybersecurity, as the name implies, defends the systems so that they may continue normal operations.

Engineering is another discipline that has relations to cybersecurity. Many engineers this day use computer aided designs, or CAD, to build today’s infrastructure. There are also many types of engineers. Computers, electrical, software, etc. that all rely on cybersecurity to keep their data secure. Software engineers may even make the software that cybersecurity students use and experts as well. There are many intersecting similarities between Engineering and cybersecurity, both benefit each other.

Leadership is an important discipline with a relation to cybersecurity. However, the leader relies on the cybersecurity to effectively perform. The leader usually is the one who decides how much time and money is dedicated to cybersecurity. If too little is spent their systems could end up vulnerable. A leader should be able to effectively handle breaches or be able to hire capable people to perform against breaches. They should think about how they use cybersecurity measures to keep their business running, and how they can take preventative measures to ensure their data is safe from threats.

There are many disciplines that relate to cybersecurity, and these are just the few that I saw and interested me. Others may have other disciplines they are interested in and chose to write about, but these are mine.
